Fairway in the community

In 2020, Fairway Cares, the non-profit arm of top-10 mortgage lender Fairway Home Mortgage, provided comfort through the delivery of 1,355 care packages to those who faced a critical illness, sustained physical trauma, or lost a loved one. Those efforts nearly doubled in 2021 with volunteers at Fairway Cares packaging and delivering more than 2,400 care packages.
Additionally, Fairway supported health care professionals who are directly treating COVID-19 patients. Fairway Cares partnered with nutritional and well-being specialist Isagenix to provide 200 immune-boosting, dietary bundles to these vital, frontline workers.
“As a non-profit that is totally funded by Fairway employees, we work hard to make every dollar count and to maximize the value of the package contents,” said Sherri Anderson, CEO of Fairway Cares. “Each week we have volunteers come to the office to gift wrap some of the items. When people receive these specially wrapped items it adds to the feeling that the gift was specially prepared for them. We had more than 14 volunteers log a total of 610 hours in 2021.”
For 2022 Fairway Cares is looking to build on the momentum and plans to double results through a new initiative, Fairway Cares Champions. Fairway encourages its employees to give back to their communities through its Volunteer Paid Time Off program. Fairway volunteers contribute thousands of hours of time across the country in programs addressing issues from Education to Health to Hunger.
Dedicated to serving our veterans, Fairway founded the non-profit American Warrior Initiative (AWI) in 2015 as a way to give back to active-duty service members, veterans, and first responders. In 2021, AWI provided 101 service dogs to 101 deserving veterans, more than double the previous year.
Fairway underwrites all expenses of the non-profit American Warrior Initiative and Fairway employees have donated millions of dollars to AWI, enabling the organization to provide funding for hundreds of service dogs for deserving veterans and active military members over the past five years. Their contributions also enabled AWI to donate more than 230 gift cards to veterans in 2021.
With a focus on purchase business and market leadership we funded $71 billion in home loans in 2021. We remain a privately held corporation, owned by our employees and run by our founder Steve Jacobsen.
“It’s not about the loans we do; it is about the hearts we change and the people we help.”
-Steve Jacobson, Fairway Founder and CEO

Steve Landis discovered his passion for finance and real estate in his early twenties — and has been building on it ever since. Graduating with a degree in Finance and Business from Portland State University, he has spent over 30 years honing his ability to turn a client’s challenge into a viable financing strategy, a valued skill in the specialized field of Mortgage Planning.
Steve brings rare depth across financial disciplines to every client relationship. He holds two advanced designations: Certified Mortgage Planner (CMP) and Reverse Mortgage Specialist (RMS), reflecting both the breadth of solutions he can offer and the strategic lens he applies to each one.
His clients span the full arc of the real estate journey — first-time buyers navigating the path to homeownership, move-up buyers managing the complexity of buying and selling at the same time, and experienced investors managing portfolios of up to 20 properties. For higher-net-worth clients, Steve works closely alongside financial advisors to make sure home financing fits into the larger financial picture. It’s not just a loan to him — it’s a financial investment, a view respected by CPAs and tax professionals who value a partnered approach.
A recognized educator in the field, Steve is a certified continuing education instructor for both real estate agents and licensed financial advisors — a credential that speaks to the depth and communication of his expertise. He stays closely connected to market trends through active membership in the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), the Home Builders Association (HBA), and a cross-industry group of colleagues at a local Provisors chapter.
Backed by a team with over 25 years together, Steve has built a reputation around expert advice, guaranteed estimates, and on-time closings. His vast network across the community and within Fairway ensures every client experience is exceptional.
When he’s not working, Steve can be found hiking, mountain biking, or on the water or slopes. He and his wife of over 30 years share two grown children — and a family-wide passion for the outdoors, travel, and adventure.

Sheila Landis came to retirement lending the way the best advisors often do — through personal experience. In 2020, she stepped away from a decades-long career and into a caregiver role for her aging parents. In doing so, she discovered firsthand how rapidly care requirements can accelerate and the critical need for a sustainable housing plan.
Not all seniors have a Sheila or a clear strategy for housing in retirement. That gap became her calling. As a Reverse Mortgage Specialist (RMS) and licensed mortgage loan originator, Sheila specializes in retirement-focused strategies: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECM), Reverse for Purchase (H4P), and Bridge loans designed to help seniors preserve their wealth and stay in control of their choices.
Her career didn’t start in mortgages. Sheila earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Oregon State University and spent her early years at IBM as a technical product specialist — a background that gave her an instinct for complex problem-solving and a communication style that makes sophisticated financial strategies feel accessible. She joined the mortgage industry in 2003 and has since built deep expertise at the intersection of home equity, retirement income, and real estate transitions.
Sheila serves as the team’s community outreach educator, regularly speaking at workshops for real estate agents and financial advisors throughout the Pacific Northwest. She’s a certified continuing education instructor and the author of The Landis Group’s “Stay Informed” blog, where she translates complex mortgage topics into clear guidance for clients and referral partners.
Sheila is an active member of the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association (NRMLA), the National Aging in Place Council (NAIPC) — holding an advisory role in the Oregon Chapter, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), and Women in Finance and Insurance (WIFS).
A native of Canada and proud Oregonian, Sheila is the mom of two University of Oregon graduates who occasionally join her and Steve on outdoor adventures across the state and beyond.
Tatia is a native Oregonian having spent over 30 years in the mortgage industry.
Starting as a receptionist, she quickly transitioned to her to current role as a licensed Production Partner. She joined Steve over 25 years ago and manages all the backend details. She keeps clients moving through the process from managing timelines to understanding underwriting guidelines and working through exceptions.
Tatia is married to her high school sweetheart with whom she shares the responsibility of their five furry children. Travel is a big part of their free time enjoying trips to sunny beach destinations and local adventures in their RV.
